Is Food The Cause Of Your Headache?
There are several causes of a headache and food is one of them. What you are eating could be a cause of your headache too. Here are some of the most common foods that can trigger a headache.

Cheese
Though any kind of cheese can cause a headache, it is particularly the aged variety that is the primary culprit. Some examples of aged cheese include cheddar, mozzarella, feta, parmesan, Swiss and the like. Aged chesses contain a substance called tyramine, which is an amino acid. This substance has been linked to various types of headaches particularly migraine. If you are suffering from frequent headaches, then it would be a good thing to eliminate cheese all together from your diet. However, if you are very fond of this food then make sure that you eat in moderation.

Red wine
Like cheese, red wine too contains large amounts of tyramine. However, the amount of tyramine varies from one brand to other. Along with red wine, alcohol in any form can contribute to a headache. Alcohol dilates the blood vessels that lead to a headache.

Processed meats
Many people suffer from headaches on eating processed meats or other food items. These food items are high on tyramine and nitrates. Like tyramine, nitrates and nitrites too contribute to headache. They increase the blood flow to the brain in some people which results in pain in the head and adjoining area.

Nuts
Nuts are a healthy food as they provide the body with essential proteins and the 'good' fat. However, too much of these nuts can cause a headache. When you consume these nuts, especially almonds and walnuts in a greater quantity, the temples get pressurized due to the protein overload. This results in to a headache.

Eggs
People who are already on a high protein diet may suffer from headaches on eating eggs. Eggs also contain sulfur that can pressurize the temples and cause pain.

Chocolates
Eating too many chocolates could also result in a headache. Chocolate contains phenylethylamine. Excess of this substance in the body hampers the concentration levels. It also pressurizes various points in the head, thereby causing a headache.

Monosodium Glutamate
Also known as MSG, this is used as a flavor enhancer in various foods. Excessive consumption of this substance could also lead to frequent headaches. Some of the most common foods that use MSG include dry roasted nuts, soup and sauces, potato chips, Chinese foods, salad dressings, mayonnaise etc.

If you do not want to deal with a headache then make sure that you avoid these foods. And, if you cannot give up on them completely, at least make sure that you eat them in moderation.
