Other Types Of Headache

Headache is one problem that exists in more than just manifestation. Though some headache stypes are quite common, there are some that are slightly rare. Let us take a look at some of the more uncommon and less popular headache types.

Cluster headaches
As the name suggests, this type of headache usually occurs in clusters in different sections of the head.  This headache type usually occurs on one side of the head. Cluster headaches come with unbearable pain and can be difficult to bear. However, this headache type does not last for long. Cluster headaches usually occur on a frequent basis for a few weeks and then terminate on their own.

Primary cough headaches
This type of headache is caused due to persistent coughing. It is not uncommon to notice tension or strain in the head when you are coughing. Persistent or extreme coughing causes tension in the muscles of the head. This leads to a headache.

Primary exertional headaches
While exercise is good for your body, sometimes it may be a cause of headache. Headaches that are caused as a result of physical activity are known as Primary exertional headaches. This type of headache is more common in people who lead a sedentary lifestyle and retort to sudden exercising. Sudden exercising causes a rush of adrenaline in the body, which results in headache.

Primary headaches associated with sexual activity
There are many people especially women who experience headache after a sexual act. This type of headache is usually triggered by orgasm. However, the exact cause of this type of headache is unknown.

Primary thunderclap headaches

This type of headache gets its name from its unbearable intensity and sudden nature. Thunderclap headaches occur all of a sudden from no where and are characterized by coruscating pain. However, this headache type does not occur on a regular basis. So, you will not have to bear with it for the following months.

Hemicrania continua
Hemicrania continua is a headache type that is caused due to a certain type of medication known as indometacin. This headache type is characterized by pain on one side of the head. Hemicrania continua is a persistent type of headache that continues to prevail over a couple of months.

New daily persistent headaches
This headache type is quite similar to tension headaches. However, unlike tension headaches, this headache type occurs on a regular basis and refuses to go away.

Medication overuse headaches
As the name suggests, this type of headache occurs due to overuse of medicines. People who use painkillers quite frequently are victims of this headache type.

Headaches caused by temporomandibular joint disorder
This type of headache is usually a symptom of a jaw problem. Once the problem is treated, this headache terminates too.
